Fabrizio Romano makes Manchester United transfer ‘guarantee’

Fabrizio Romano has issued a major Manchester United transfer update as the summer window enters its final days.

The Italian journalist has become one of football’s most recognised transfer reporters, with supporters regularly following his updates during the busiest stages of the market.

United have already completed significant business under Michael Carrick this summer.

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos strengthened midfield before Carlos Baleba became the third addition in that area earlier this week.

Baleba signed from Brighton after United finally landed a player they had tracked for a long period.

That deal restored some optimism after a disappointing start to the Premier League season.

United were beaten 2-0 by newly-promoted Hull City last weekend, with defensive problems exposed during a damaging opening-day defeat.

There are also questions over attacking depth.

Fiorentina are pushing to sign Joshua Zirkzee, which could leave Carrick with another decision to make before the deadline.

Left-back, however, appears to be the area United are most likely to strengthen.

Lewis Hall, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Alejandro Balde have all been linked during the summer, while Luke Shaw remains the senior option currently available.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has now claimed he can “guarantee” that Manchester United are still working to sign another left-back.

Romano explained that United continue exploring solutions and suggested the eventual arrival may not be a superstar name such as Balde.

Instead, he compared the situation to United’s 2023 loan move for Sergio Reguilon.

The transfer expert believes United could pursue an experienced international-level player who can provide immediate competition without necessarily arriving as the long-term undisputed starter.

That type of deal would allow Carrick to add depth while avoiding another huge commitment late in the window.

With August 28 now here and the deadline approaching, United have little time remaining to complete their squad.

Romano’s update suggests their work is far from finished, with left-back now clearly among the final priorities.
