Tottenham are looking to take the next step and win major trophies on a consistent basis now that Daniel Levy has departed the club. The Lilywhites never really managed to compete for silverware consistently under Levy, as the Englishman’s primary focus was to commercialise the club, even if it affected the performances on the pitch.
However, the North London club can now focus on what actually matters the most… winning trophies. Now that Daniel Levy has departed N17, all the footballing decisions are set to be taken by the Lewis family. They are the majority stakeholders at N17 and are hoping to make their mark by leading the club to glory in the near future.
The first order of business for them would be to back Thomas Frank in the upcoming transfer windows, as well as, continue generating revenue for the club for financial security. The Lilywhites need to prioritise the performances on the pitch, and that will only happen if the club invests heavily into the squad, making the team better at every given opportunity.
Tottenham’s ambition is clear now following Daniel Levy’s sudden departure from N17. The Englishman failed to grasp what the club actually stood for, and instead focused on prioritising the commercial side of the game. This led to constant backlash as the Lilywhites were heading in the wrong direction under Levy’s management.
However, the same cannot be said about the Lewis family and Vinai Venkatesham as they aim to invest heavily into the squad. Speaking to Tottenham’s media team, Venkatesham said,
“I think it is very fair to say that we have firm backing from the Lewis family against our ambitions to be successful on the pitch, both on the men’s side and women’s side. They know that’s going to require investment and we have their firm backing. But we also need to make sure that we’re also cognizant and aware of the financial fair play rules, and that means we need to continue to grow our revenues.”
The Spurs CEO added,
“We need to continue to develop players both from the academy and young players that we buy. We need to make sure that we’re selling players at the right time, and we also need to make sure that every time we’re recruiting a player, we’re making smart decisions both from a sporting and a financial perspective.”
Vinai Venkatesham has clearly indicated that the Lewis family is backing the club’s ambitions of becoming successful by investing heavily into the team. But the Spurs CEO also adds that the club needs to be careful of the FFP rules, and to maintain their stance, they need to generate revenue constantly. Not only that, but Venkatesham also highlights the importance of buying and selling players at the right time, as well as, developing them from a financial and sporting perspective.
The departure of Daniel Levy might just be what Tottenham needed, as the Lilywhites can finally take the next step and focus on making the team better during every transfer window. Selling all the deadwood, as well as, bringing in quality players is something that the North London club will prioritise going forward.
