In a surprise twist, Romain Faivre had been all set to sign the contract with Hellas Verona when the Bournemouth player changed his mind.

The agreement had been reached for the loan with option to buy at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the clubs had shaken hands and the paperwork was all written up waiting for him to place his signature on the contract.

It was at this moment that Faivre seemingly had a rethink and decided to abandon the entire move.

Faivre dropped Verona at the last minute

As the summer transfer session is now over, with the deadline at 19.00 UK time (18.00 GMT, 20.00 CET), he will have to remain at Bournemouth or join one of the leagues who have later deadlines.

A product of the AS Monaco youth academy, he went on to play for Brest, Olympique Lyonnais and Lorient, moving to Bournemouth for €15m in the summer of 2023.

Bizarrely, he made only six competitive appearances in the Bournemouth jersey, as he has suffered from numerous injury problems in recent years.

Faivre spent last season on loan at one of his old clubs, Stade Brestois.

This is the second collapsed deal on deadline day for Verona, as Roma also withdrew the loan of Tommaso Baldanzi.
