Only at Tottenham would you find a manager being under pressure to save his job despite winning European silverware to end the season. The Lilywhites are under the spotlight right now for all the wrong reasons as Ange Postecoglou’s future remains undecided. It is not two weeks since the North London club won the Europa League final against Manchester United, and yet no decision has been taken on the managerial situation.
Spurs endured a disastrous domestic campaign and finished the season just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier League. It is not wrong to suggest that Ange’s men wrote off the league campaign midway through the season and focused solely on the Europa League. In hindsight, that was the right decision taken by Big Ange as they managed to do the unthinkable and win the competition.
A lot was spoken about the struggles Tottenham endured in the Premier League before they managed to win the Europa League this season. However, the narrative in the media has shifted after the European success. Now, everyone wants Big Ange to continue at the helm for next season as Spurs look to close the gap on their rivals.
There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham. The Australian has always remained keen to continue at N17 and has given no indications of quitting in the summer. Yet, Daniel Levy is still on the fence regarding Big Ange’s fate as fans remain keen to know what the outcome would be.
Now, ex-Celtic star Ramon Vega has come out with all guns blazing and suggested that Ange Postecoglou is getting ‘disrespected’ by the club. Writing on X, Vega said,
“I find it incredibly disrespectful to even think about sacking Ange Postecoglou. He has accomplished the impossible — something others with more significant credentials have failed to achieve. Letting him go would be one of the biggest mistakes the club again could make, especially considering the previous errors the club has already made with management and recruitment.”
The ex-Celtic star added,
“Ange Postecoglou is here to stay and needs to be given the support it needs with that extra money for qualifying for the CL! Rome wasn’t built in one day.”
Ramon Vega has insisted that Ange Postecoglou managed to do the unthinkable by winning the Europa League, so thinking about his sacking is ‘disrespectful’. The ex-Celtic star reminded everyone that other managers have failed to achieve the feat in the past and letting Big Ange go would be another big mistake Daniel Levy could make in terms of managerial decisions. Vega urged Spurs to back the Australian instead and give him time to build his project next season.
It was reported earlier that Daniel Levy would sack Ange Postecoglou once the season ended, despite the Europa League success. But the Australian is still kept in the dark at N17 and many fans believe that Levy is almost second-guessing his decision to relieve Big Ange from his duties at N17.
The Spurs chairman has already picked out potential managers that could takeover the reigns at Hotspur Way if Big Ange is sacked in the summer. Brentford manager Thomas Frank and Fulham boss Marco Silva have already been shortlisted to replace the Australian for next season. It remains to be seen what decision Daniel Levy makes regarding the managerial situation as the clock ticks over.
