Amad Diallo has not played for Manchester United this season through injury, forcing manager Michael Carrick to consider alternative options for the first three games of the season.
The Ivory Coast international last played for United against AC Milan in pre-season but came off after 61 minutes and has not been seen playing since.
Carrick issued an update on the 24-year-old’s condition ahead of his side’s fixture against Ipswich Town, stating that he had picked up a niggle although was confidence in the squad’s depth to cover for him.
With upcoming ties against Sabah, Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Fulham coming up, much focus had been shed on whether Diallo would make his return for the team before the international break.
Journalist Chris Wheeler, on MailSport, has now answered that question, with him confirming that the 24-year-old is yet to return to training outside for the club whilst also saying that the Ivory Coast international may not return for Manchester United until after the international break.
For the team, news that Amad Diallo may not return until after the international break will come as a huge disappointment, especially after Carrick had said the winger was looking sharp just two weeks ago.
Trust must now be placed in United’s squad to cover for the 24-year-old (possibly over the course of the next four matches) and to put the team in a good position for his return.
Michael Carrick has primarily chosen to play Bryan Mbeumo in Amad’s position during his side’s opening three games of the season, and is likely to do so for tonight’s fixture against Sabah alongside Sunday’s Manchester derby.
The manager could also turn to youth academy graduate Shea Lacey, if needed, to help provide more output in the right-wing position as well, should Mbeumo not be able to play.
