La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inter remain interested in Roma midfielder Manu Koné, especially with the Giallorossi needing circa €90m to stick to Financial Fair Play rules.

Inter are expected to make a new attempt to sign Roma midfielder Koné in January, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri had already opened talks for the France international over the summer, sending an offer exceeding €40m.

Inter to make new attempt to sign Koné

Roma initially seemed willing to finalise the transfer, but the ownership had a second thought and decided to keep the Frenchman in the capital.

However, the Giallorossi will likely need fresh cash in the next few months to stick to UEFA Financial Fair Play parameters, and this is a reason why Inter hope a deal for Koné is still possible.

Roma advisor Claudio Ranieri already sent a warning earlier this week, saying that the Giallorossi can’t afford more Financial Fair Play sanctions.

“First of all, we have to be in line with the accounts,” said the ex-Roma boss.

“We’ll see how the league goes, where we end up and how it goes in the Europa League. This is all income that brings us additional value.

“Then, at the very worst, we will have someone to sell. We can’t afford to take a ‘red card’, or exclusion from any competitions. So we have to keep our accounts in order.”

Roma must stick to FFP rules

As reported by Gazzetta, Roma signed an agreement with UEFA in 2022 in which they pledged to improve their finances gradually over the years.

The target for the end of the current campaign is to have an aggregate loss not exceeding €60m, considering just the last three seasons, 2023-24, 24-25 and 25-26.

Gazzetta calculates that Roma would need approximately €90m to reach their objective, which must be earned through a new shirt sponsor, savings, improved results on the pitch, and the sale of some players.

Gazzetta suggests that Koné and Evan N’Dicka would be the most appealing players for potential suitors, with Inter ready to pounce on the French midfielder.
