Tottenham Hotspur have seen their stature increase in recent months after they finally got the monkey off their back by lifting the Europa League title at the expense of Manchester United last season. It has prompted the world to take a much serious note of Spurs and what they are capable of.

The trophy has also managed to mask over what was a terrible Premier League campaign for the North London club. Despite that, the mood around the club is very jubilant and with a new manager at the helm and a very promising young squad, everything seems to be falling in place for Spurs.

Now, it has emerged, as per Galatasaray reporter Ali Nazi Kukuc via Haber Sarikirmizi (h/t Sports Witness), manager Okan Buruk had a chat with talented Turkish attacker Baris Alper Yilmaz before convincing him to sign a new deal with the Turkish club and reject a move to West Ham United this summer.

Go to Tottenham or Liverpool

The 25-year-old was a transfer target for the Hammers but he has now snubbed them to sign a new deal at Galatasaray. Apparently, the manager gave the example of Tottenham and Liverpool to convince him to stay put this summer. He said:

“The eyes of Europe are on Galatasaray right now, with the moves we have made, play for one more year while there is a target in the Champions League, show yourself better in the showcase and go to higher level teams. Instead of going to West Ham, go to Tottenham or go to Liverpool”

Without a doubt, the €21m-rated Galatasaray attacker is very talented. He made a name for himself with the way he played for Turkey during the Euros 2024 and since then, he has continued to improve his game. With every passing season, his stocks firmly seem to be on the rise.

Spurs might need a new left-winger this summer

While Tottenham aren’t necessarily actively linked with a move for Yilmaz this summer, it shows how well the club have established themselves in recent times that the Galatasaray manager has used them as an example, along with Liverpool, to convince the 25-year-old to stay.

Spurs could do with a new left-winger this summer, should Son Heung-min leave the club but with all due respect to the Turkish youngster, they might be looking at someone more high-profile to replace their captain if it comes to that. Regardless, Yilmaz is a prospect to keep an eye out on.

As Buruk clearly mentioned, if Yilmaz puts his head down and works hard for another season at Galatasaray, it is only a matter of time before one of the top Premier League clubs circle him and let’s wait and see if the player and Spurs’ path cross at any point.
