Pep Guardiola congratulates Juventus, says the ‘future belongs’ to the Old Lady, but insists the playing style will ‘save’ Manchester City in this tough moment.
Juventus secured a 2-0 win over Guardiola’s City in Turin this evening. Football Italia was among the accredited media at the Allianz Stadium.
Guardiola said in the past that meeting Atalanta was like going to the dentist. Does he feel the same way tonight?
“It’s different. Juventus are a top team, they have always been. I congratulate them, and the future belongs to them,” the Spaniard said at a post-match press conference.
The Premier League giants have lost three of the last six matches, winning just once. Does he question himself after such a poor run of results?
“Of course, I question myself. In good and bad moments,” he replied.
“I tried to find the way, but the game was there. Results give a good boost; today, we conceded fewer chances compared to Premier League games, but in the end, we needed the last moment. We missed it, but we are going to insist.
“We have to accept it, we have to insist, insist, insist. I think we played with the right tempo, we were so close in the final moment.”
A journalist noted that Manchester City didn’t produce enough shots on target and kept passing the ball around the Juventus box too often.
“You are right. We must try to be as many times as possible in that situation,” said Guardiola.
“You think players don’t want to score? There are opponents, there are defenders, and they did great. Congratulations to them. We play this way, and it’s the same way that has brought us to do great things in England and worldwide. The playing style will save us. We have no defence because we haven’t won many games, but the players gave their all, and this moment will make us stronger.”
Lastly, Guardiola denied that he was close to becoming the Juventus coach in 2019.
“No, I was never close,” he concluded.

Wolves have made a formal approach to sign Chelsea duo Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana according to journalist Sebastien Vidal. The Blues have been busy this summer, and have made four signings in Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens. Chelsea continue to work on deals for both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho and hope to get them done before the end of the window. Wolves in for Disasi and Datro Fofana However, the focus currently is on outgoings with Chelsea still looking to move a number of players on despite making good progress on players sales. The Blues have sold Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Armando Broja this month, but they still need to find solutions for more players. Disasi and Datro Fofana fall into that category, but the duo have attracted interested from a number of clubs, although as of yet no official offers have come in. Datro Fofana has been linked with French sides Toulouse and Nice as well as Wolves, whilst Disasi has been linked with Juventus and Newcastle, although a move to the North East would appear unlikely now the Magpies have signed Malick Thiaw. However, Vidal has provided an update on the situation and there seems a possibility the duo could be playing for Wolves next season. He took to X.com and said: “Wolves have made a formal approach to sign Chelsea duo Axel Disasi David Datro Fofana. “Combined deal could reach £45m (£25–30m for Disasi, ~£15m for Fofana). “Wolves want a new CB striker after selling big this summer. Chelsea open to selling both.” Chelsea could make profit on Datro Fofana The Blues look likely to make a loss on Disasi given they signed the Frenchman in a deal worth just under £39m from Monaco in the summer of 2023. However, if they could recoup as much as £25-£30m that would be seen as a good result, but £15m for Datro Fofana would represent a profit on the £8-£10m fee they paid for the striker in January 2023. Datro Fofana has only made four appearances for the Blues, and has taken in loan spells at Hertha Berlin, Burnley and Turkish side Goztepe.

In 2024, Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis was suddenly given the keys to the offense under center after Jordan Love suffered an injury in Week 1’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. The Packers are less than a month away from kicking off their 2025 campaign, with a date with the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field scheduled for September 7. Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger Makes Direct Statement About Mason Rudolph's Spot On QB Depth Chart
The Pittsburgh Steelers have quite an interesting quarterback room for the 2025 season. Of course, all the focus is truly on Aaron Rodgers and what he can bring to the team at this stage in his career. Behind him, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph serving as the primary backup. Skylar Thompson and Will Howard are competing for the third spot on the depth chart, but unfortunately for Howard, an injury has slowed his progress. Thompson took advantage of the opportunity, performing well in the first preseason game and possibly reclaiming the QB3 role. Before his injury, Howard had previously moved ahead of Thompson in the competition. Former teammate of Rudolph, Ben Roethlisberger, recently shared his honest thoughts about the veteran quarterback’s performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Roethlisberger, who spent years with Rudolph during his time in Pittsburgh, had a unique perspective on how his former understudy handled the game. While Roethlisberger acknowledged there were some areas where Rudolph could improve, he also praised his composure, decision-making, and ability to move the offense when needed. There is a strong argument that Rudolph is one of the most dependable backup quarterbacks in the NFL, which is a significant asset for the Steelers in the 2025 season. Steelers' Mason Rudolph Has Great Preseason Game Versus Jaguars Rudolph only attempted 10 passes on Saturday night against the Jaguars, but completed 90 percent of them. He threw for 84 yards and one touchdown. While preseason football can be difficult to evaluate, he performed well in roughly a quarter and some change of action. His efficiency and composure reinforced the notion that the Steelers have one of the league’s most steady and trustworthy backup quarterbacks heading into the regular season. Oregon suspends former five-star WR recruit indefinitely
Oregon wide receiver Jurrion Dickey has struggled to live up to expectations in his first two seasons with the Ducks, and he is now in a terrible position heading into 2025 as well. Dickey has been suspended indefinitely by Oregon, head coach Dan Lanning announced on Tuesday. Lanning also suggested that Dickey may not play for the Ducks again. "We have two team rules; that’s respectful, be on time,” Lanning said, via James Crepea of The Oregonian. “There’s some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us and we needed a break from that so we could focus on what’s in front of us right now. "Wishing him nothing but the best, as far as success and want to see him get back to where he can be a contributor somewhere; that might be here that might be somewhere else.” Dickey was a five-star recruit and rated as one of the top wide receivers in the country when he came out of Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California in 2023. He suffered an injury his senior year in high school and redshirted as a freshman at Oregon. Dickey has two catches for 14 years during his time with the Ducks. Oregon went 13-1 in Lanning's third season with the program last season. The Ducks lost to eventual national champion Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
