Harry Kane Still Interested In NFL Career

Golf represents a passion of Kane’s outside of his current career, but he has long shown an affinity for the NFL as well. Retirement from soccer is not expected any time soon, although when that happens in this case the matter of a kicking gig will be something to watch for. Kane could look to emulate Brandon Aubrey in transitioning from soccer to football.

“That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously,” Kane said (via The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke). “It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”

Kane’s 11-year run with Tottenham Hotspur included plenty of individual achievements but was marred by a lack of team success. England’s all-time leading scorer began playing for German superpower Bayern Munich in 2023, though, and he has enjoyed a trophy-filled run since then. Kane’s most recent production has made him a favorite to win the Ballon d’Or (soccer’s most prestigious individual accolade) this year, an indication his playing days are not close to ending at the age of 33.

Kane’s current Bayern Munich contract averages nearly $29MM per year, and he added a new deal is likely to be finalized soon. Nevertheless, Kane left the door open to one day spending time in Major League Soccer, as many other European-based players have done during the latter stages of their careers. Kane’s comments included a newly-stated idea of playing for an MLS club and an NFL team simultaneously. That would not be feasible since upcoming changes to the MLS schedule will lead to considerable overlap with the NFL calendar, however.

Even so, the idea of Kane attempting an NFL career at some point is clearly still something receiving consideration. No discussions have taken place with NFL teams at this point, he added, but it will be interesting to see if that changes in the future.
