‘He might have fractured his spine…’ – Pundit fuming over Dominic Solanke’s injury treatment
ANP

It was another horrible performance from the Lilywhites as Dutch side AZ Alkmaar got the better of them in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals. The hosts not only dominated the game but also ensured that they barely gave Tottenham Hotspur any breathing room to get the ball past the first phase as a swarm of red players jumped around the passing lanes in close proximity as soon as Vicario released his first pass, and this made it quite difficult and tricky for Spurs to find their feet, and they are lucky to get away with the game with only one goal deficit.

And as it has been for a long time this season, Ange Postecoglou’s side comes out of what has been an underwhelming game with an injury concern – one that has the capacity to leave them light in a crucial position.

Let’s start with the game per se; an early own goal from Lucas Bergvall left the Lilywhites on the back foot for the rest of the game. But it was still a disappointing performance from everyone, with James Maddison barely being in the game, while the movements upfront were missing from Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson. Ange Postecoglou will be demanding a much better performance when they host the Dutch side in the second leg, but the Australian head coach will be nervous over Dominic Solanke and his availability.

O’Hara fuming over Solanke treatment

The summer signing was getting back from an injury that forced him to sit on the sidelines for ten games, but soon he was in a duel with AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper who was looking to catch the ball and possibly hurt Solanke’s lower spine in the process. The 26-year-old was screaming in pain when the medics attended him on the pitch, but it’s what happened after that has left Jamie O’Hara fuming.

With Solanke being in a lot of pain, the coach decided to swap his star striker with academy starlet Dane Scarlett, but the medical crew decided against using a stretcher, and that annoyed O’Hara.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate said:

“They’ve took him off and he’s limping round, but it annoys me when a player’s, you know, he’s got to walk 60-70 yards. Get a stretcher.

“You don’t know, he might have fractured his spine, you’re not actually sure what he’s done here. He’s in a bad way. It really annoys me they don’t get a stretcher out to get him off the pitch because it seems like he’s in a lot of pain.

“Im hoping he’s just got that really bad whack and he’ll be okay. It’s gonna be sore that’s for sure but they’ve had to take him off and he couldn’t continue.

“Disappointing again if you lose him, that’s for sure.”

Now, Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League push hangs by a thread, and it’s all down to self-inflicted errors, and if they face a lengthy injury spell for Solanke, it would add to the already existing problems at N17 and make this 1-0 deficit a mighty mountain to climb.
