Following Manchester United’s loss against Hull City on opening day of the Premier League, the Red Devils will have a strong focus on improvement.

22-year-old midfielder Carlos Baleba is set to sign a five-year contract for the Red Devils after making the switch from Brighton & Hove Albion, completing their rebuild in the heart of the side.

While one midfielder arrives, with an announcement imminent, another has made his United exit on loan for the season.

Scottish Premiership side Hibernian have completed the signing of Jacob Devaney. After entering advanced talks to bring in the 19-year-old, head coach David Gray’s side have announced the coup of Devaney on a season-long loan.

Gray told Hibernian’s website upon completing the signing, “We’re really pleased to bring Jacob to the Club. He already has experience of Scottish football and knows the demands of the Premiership, which will be important as he settles into the squad.

“He’s a technically talented young international footballer who is keen to learn and develop, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the group.”

The club’s Sporting Director, Malky Mackay, spoke highly of the youngster, raving, “We’re delighted to welcome a player of Jacob’s calibre to Hibernian FC.

“He’s a young player with an excellent background and, importantly, he already has experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership.

“A lot of clubs were understandably interested in Jacob, so we’re delighted that he saw his future at Hibs. I would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts in getting this deal over the line.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for Jacob and for the Club, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what he can bring to Hibs.”

“To have him join before the end of the window is really positive, and we’ll look to get him settled in as quickly as possible.”

Hibernian have confirmed they have the option to permanently sign Jacob Devaney, should the 19-year-old’s stint at the club prove a success – which will certainly be something to look out for across the 2026/27 season.
