With AC Milan and Como so eager to fly to Australia for their Serie A match in February 2026, how much will the clubs and the league actually earn from this event?

The fixture had to be moved because San Siro is being taken up by the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games in February.

Rather than find another venue on Italian soil, they decided to push for a trip to Perth instead, making history as the first ever Serie A match played outside the country.

It is being sold as a great opportunity to raise funds for the clubs and Lega Serie A, as well as boost international interest in the tournament as a whole.

AC Milan and Como to make Serie A history

Calcio e Finanza tried to calculate what benefits playing in Australia will genuinely provide.

According to their calculations, Australian authorities are ready to invest €12m to host the match, but costs must also be deducted.

After those, there ought to be €8-9m left to split between Milan and Como, but also spread to the other Serie A clubs who voted in favour of the proposal.

As Milan are officially the ‘home’ team for this fixture, they will get the largest share of the revenue.

The real benefit might be felt only later, as the Lega Serie A hope this event will boost their visibility in Australia, and therefore increase the future television and merchandise revenue.

Not everyone is a fan, as Adrien Rabiot declared the idea “completely mad.”
