Chelsea are continuing their chase of two young Dutch talents as the summer window continues. Fans have received a positive update on the saga for one as it is said that the player “believes in the Chelsea project”.
The words of Fabrizio Romano will have electrified the fanbase to some extent as he spoke on one of his YouTube updates. He was pretty optimistic that a deal would get done for the Blues to pick up Jorrel Hato with the defender informing Ajax of his desire to move and having some belief in what is being built at Stamford Bridge.
The allure of playing in the Premier League is also appealing to the defender who seems all but ready to make the switch to England.
The versatile Dutchman has played as both a centre-back and a left-back for the Eredivisie outfit. He has just as many matches on the left as he does through the middle. This kind of versatility means he can slot in as rotation for Marc Cucurella or Levi Colwill and allows for even more tactical flexibility from Enzo Maresca.
He’s got experience playing in major European competitions as well as for his national team. Combine that with his 75 outings in the top division of Dutch football and he comes in with a wealth of on-pitch experience at a high level. The teenager broke into the side early and has managed to stay there.
He’s a solid passer of the ball and should improve in Maresca’s possession-focused system. He was able to contribute 9 assists for Ajax in 111 appearances which is a positive sign of his creativity. That is a number that the Blues will also be hoping to increase.
