Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with countless players since the end of last season but have only brought in Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus, whilst turning Mathys Tel’s loan into a permanent deal from Bayern Munich.
The Lilywhites need to strengthen their midfield department as well as add depth to the squad ahead of a challenging 2025/26 season. The club bosses are looking to move on Yves Bissouma, whereas Rodrigo Bentancur has entered the final year of his contract. Moreover, Dejan Kulusevski is unlikely to be fit for the start of the new campaign after undergoing knee surgery in May.
This has made the signing of a central midfielder crucial for the Thomas Frank-led club. Last month, Tottenham enquired to Liverpool about the potential availability of Harvey Elliott.
Harvey Elliott is subject of interest from a several clubs having only played a minor role in Liverpool’s outstanding debut campaign under Arne Slot. The creative midfielder returned from a fractured foot in the midst of last season and never really managed to establish himself as a regular starter in Slot’s side, clocking just 360 minutes of Premier League action.
Now, the 22-year-old, who was pivotal in England’s European Under-21 Championship success in Slovakia and was crowned Player of the tournament earlier this month, has opened up on his future at Anfield. Elliott has concerns over his game time at the club, and with him targeting a 2026 World Cup spot in the England squad, an Anfield departure appears to be on the cards.
“Look, if I had it my way, I’d be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that, I love everything about the club,” Elliott told The Anfield Wrap (h/t The Daily Mirror).
“But at the same time, I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what’s best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. I want to keep being successful as a player.”
There is no shortage of interest in the versatile Liverpool midfielder, with Fulham, Brighton and several Bundesliga clubs apart from Tottenham all vying for his signature.
As for Spurs, we have strengthened our attacking line with the acquisition of Kudus. The Ghana international can play in a variety of attacking roles and help Frank’s side unlock the opposition’s defence. Then there is Kulusevski, who was transformed into a box-to-box midfielder from an inconsistent wide player by former boss Ange Postecoglou last season. Now with Frank at the helm, it will be intriguing for the fans to watch how the Dane uses Kulusevski in his system.
Given Spurs are now well-stocked as far as the options in the no.10 and right-wing roles are concerned, there is no immediate need for our club to make a move for Elliott.
