Lucas Bergvall has been one of the standout players for Tottenham this season

Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall is enjoying a stellar campaign so far under Thomas Frank. The Sweden international has played week in week out for the Lilywhites this season, proving his importance in the team. Not only that, but the 19-year-old has shown immense maturity by playing in different positions under Frank, showcasing his versatility and his quality.

The talented midfielder has played as an #8 and as a #10 this season. Bergvall has also added a different dynamic to his game by making an impact in the final third of the pitch for the North London club. His performance against West Ham last week was one for the highlight reels, with the teenagers grabbing a goal and an assist in a 0-3 win against the Hammers.

The 19-year-old followed that up with a ‘Man of the Match’ performance against Villarreal in the Champions League. One can clearly see the prolific midfielder’s hunger to make an impact for Spurs. He is constantly making runs and pressing the opponent to win the ball back higher up the field. The Sweden international has also admitted that he is still learning his trade in a new role under Thomas Frank.

Lucas Bergvall can be the solution to the midfield problems at Tottenham

Despite Lucas Bergvall’s brilliant start to the season, Tottenham are still in the market for a new midfielder. The Lilywhites are linked with Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton for a January move as they look to bring in a player that could drive the ball up from midfield and control the tempo of the game.

But John Wenham believes that Spurs already have a player in Lucas Bergvall that can play that role under Thomas Frank. Speaking to Tottenham News, He says:

“We’ve heard a lot in recent weeks about the lack of a progressive midfielder at Tottenham, but for me, Bergvall can do that and does do that. In terms of the energy he brings to the team and the opportunities he opens up for others.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner adds,

“So I think he’s slowly establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, which is just amazing for a 19-year-old up until the year before he was playing in the Swedish division.”

John Wenham believes Lucas Bergvall can easily play the role of a progressive midfielder for Tottenham this season. The Lilywhite Rose owner points out the Sweden international’s ability to make other players perform better, adding that his energy on the field is perfectly suited for that role. Wenham also admits that Bergvall has become a vital part of Thomas Frank’s system, highlighting his importance at N17.

One of the many positive qualities about Lucas Bergvall is that he can control the tempo of the game and create chances for his teammates. Not only that, but the Sweden international is an ideal player to operate as a box-to-box midfielder, as he likes to constantly run and make an impact on both ends of the football pitch.

So, Spurs should let the 19-year-old develop his game in the #8 role instead of spending money on a new midfielder.
