'I was only involved when' – Mauricio Pochettino names the two transfers he approved when at Chelsea

Former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he only approved two signings during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino was appointed in the summer of the 2023, following Frank Lampard’s interim spell in charge after Graham Potter had been sacked.

Chelsea were busy the summer Pochettino arrived, with 14 first team signings arriving at Stamford Bridge including Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson.

Cole Palmer also arrived that summer and had a record breaking season under Pochettino, who ultimately only lasted one season at Chelsea after guiding the club to a sixth placed finish.

Looking back on his time in charge the former Spurs boss admitted he only had a say in two of the signings which arrived that summer.

“Being fair, I support[ed] all the business when we arrived,” he told The Overlap.

“When we signed, it was already done, all the business. I was only involved when we signed Disasi, because [Wesley] Fofana was injured in pre-season and Cole Palmer.

“It is more about a philosophical idea. The coach or the coaching staff need to be involved in all these types of decisions. Because if not, it is not easy.”

Palmer had a record breaking season under Pochettino and was named Premier League Young Player of the Year.

Barcelona have reportedly made initial contact over a possible summer move for Joao Pedro, with the Brazilian identified as an alternative to Julian Alvarez.

Pedro joined Chelsea last summer, and has scored 19 goals in all competitions so far in his first season, with 14 of those in the league.
