Tottenham Hotspur will hope to avoid last season’s injury crisis as Thomas Frank adopts contingencies

The last thing that Tottenham need right now is an injury crisis at N17 following a brilliant start to the season under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician has managed to win four of his opening six games of the new campaign, and his team are not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Not only that, but their impressive start this time around has seen them climb up to third in the Premier League table.

Well, fans will hope that the North London club continues its good form as games start coming in thick and fast. After a disastrous domestic campaign last season under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs cannot find themselves in the same spot yet again in the Premier League. Ange’s men finished the Premier League campaign just a place above the relegation zone last season.

It is fair to suggest, however, that one of the many reasons for Tottenham’s dismal form in the league was due to the injury crisis that the club endured. At one point, the Lilywhites had their entire backline out due to injury concerns. To put that into perspective, Spurs ranked second in the Premier League when it came to injury absences, with the players missing a combined total of 1,553 days last year.

Thomas Frank must tread lightly at Tottenham to avoid last season’s mistakes

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou’s rigid playing style was one of the major reasons for the club’s horrendous injury crisis last season. The ex-Celtic boss forced his players to always play at a high intensity, with hardly any recovery sessions planned after that. However, Thomas Frank has made some quick changes at N17 and the players now look composed on the pitch, with less chaos everywhere around them.

Spurs fans must be pleased to see this approach as the Danish tactician aims to avoid a repeat of last season. And taking notice of that, Dr. Rajpal Brar has also given his thoughts about Thomas Frank’s approach to avoid any injuries. Speaking to Tottenham News, Dr. Brar said,

“Frank will be acutely aware of what happened last season as he is a manager who is typically aware of all variables that will impact his squad and performance. I’m sure he is taking preventative measures via training practices and load management, along with not having a playing style like Postecoglou’s that relied so heavily on a high quantity and duration of sprints.”

Dr. Rajpal Brar believes that Thomas Frank is aware of the injury crisis Tottenham endured last season. The doctor also shares that the Danish tactician will do everything he can to prevent a repeat of the same mistakes, starting with controlling the load management for players. Not only that, but Dr. Brar also adds that Frank might go easy in training as his system does not rely on constant pressing.

For now, the Lilywhites currently have James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski out due to long-term injuries. Both players are expected to take some time to return to full fitness this season. Not only that, but there are a few other players in the squad that are recovering from minor injuries, leaving Thomas Frank worried about Spurs going through the same problems this time around.
