INEOS officially sign Ghana star as wildcard

INEOS have faced growing criticism alongside the Glazer family following Manchester United’s underwhelming start to the new season.

United spent heavily during the summer, particularly in midfield.

However, Michael Carrick was left without the defensive reinforcement many supporters wanted.

A new left-back had been targeted.

United pursued options including Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde, but neither arrived before the transfer window closed.

Those decisions have become more noticeable since competitive football returned.

Despite facing Hull City, Ipswich Town and Sabah FK among their opening six matches, United have already conceded ten goals in all competitions.

Diogo Dalot has been among those heavily criticised following particularly difficult performances against Manchester City and Brighton.

The Portugal international struggled during the derby defeat before another uncomfortable evening as the Red Devils surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

While left-back was initially viewed as the priority during the summer, United’s early defensive problems have also increased scrutiny on their options on the opposite flank.

INEOS have now been involved in the signing of an experienced and versatile defender elsewhere in their football operation.

INEOS complete defensive signing

OGC Nice have officially announced the arrival of Ghana international Alidu Seidu from Stade Rennais.

The French club, which is also owned by INEOS despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to sell Nice, confirmed the move on its official website on Friday.

Seidu has joined on a season-long loan as a medical joker following serious injuries to Antoine Mendy and Moise Bombito.

The 26-year-old offers considerable versatility.

Primarily a right-back, he has also operated centrally and on the left during his career in France.

He has accumulated more than 100 Ligue 1 appearances across spells with Clermont and Rennes.

Seidu joined Rennes in January 2024 for a reported €11 million and later suffered a serious ACL injury, before retuning to competitive action in August 2025.

He also brings international pedigree, having earned 25 Ghana caps and represented his country at both the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.
