Inter have already opened talks in an attempt to bring Cesc Fabregas to San Siro to replace Simone Inzaghi as head coach, but there are now only two alternative options on the Nerazzurri watchlist after Roberto De Zerbi’s decision to stay on with Marseille.

Inter have confirmed that Inzaghi has left his position as head coach via a mutual agreement after a meeting between the club’s senior management on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old departs four years to the day after he was originally appointed, and three days after Inter’s 5-0 humiliation against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

It is expected that Inzaghi will move to Saudi Arabia in order to take over as head coach of Al-Hilal.

Three Inter options to replace Inzaghi

With Inzaghi gone, Inter will need a new head coach of their own for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off in mid-June.

Fabregas has already been dubbed the frontrunner for the job, and the Nerazzurri have already requested permission to talk to the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder directly.

There are, however, now only two alternative options on the list as things stand, as De Zerbi, who had been rumoured to be a candidate for the Nerazzurri gig, is set to stay on with Olympique de Marseille.

That leaves two former Inter players as the alternative options to Fabregas , namely Patrick Vieira of Genoa and Cristian Chivu of Parma.
