Inter Miami announced a purple card on Tuesday, March 3. Without giving many details, the club wrote, "Some decisions are game changers. Others have an even bigger impact. March 4. Stay tuned."
It is important to note that there is no confirmation of what the Florida club is referring to in this teaser, but it is not the first time the purple card has been mentioned in soccer.
FIFA experimented with blue and purple cards in 2025, although it does not seem relevant to MLS. "During the CONIFA World Football Cup, a tournament for non-FIFA-affiliated nations, a purple card was handed out for a player's dissent towards a referee," explained SportBible's Josh Lawless.
"The blue and purple cards are being used as a key part of the officiating process through Football Video Support (FVS), which is essentially acting as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in tournaments and organisations where it is not available," he added.
Therefore, it is unclear what the relevance of a purple card is in an Inter Miami teaser. It could be a commercial agreement, but it is not confirmed. This Wednesday, the club will announce it.
After coming back and defeating Orlando City 4-2 in the Florida derby on Sunday, Inter Miami prepares for a busy March.
On Saturday, the 7th, they will visit D.C. United for Matchday 3 of the MLS and, four days later, they visit Nashville for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup (March 11).
On Saturday, the 14th, they visit Charlotte FC for the fourth matchday of the League, and then on the 18th, host Nashville to decide the team that will qualify for the CCC quarterfinals.
Inter Miami, Lionel Messi and co. will end March with their visit to New York City on the 22nd, in Matchday 5 of the MLS.
