Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is set to be benched for Argentina in tonight’s World Cup friendly against Venezuela.
This according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews. They report that the Albiceleste will line up with an attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez, and Thiago Almada.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is currently on international duty with Argentina.
The 28-year-old has been part of the Albiceleste setup since 2018. Last year, he made a total of sixteen appearances for the national team, scoring eleven goals.
Martinez came off the bench to score the winner in the Copa America final against Colombia last summer.
In spite of his decorated international career, Martinez has often faced competition to start.
The Inter captain has particularly had to contend with the competition of current Atletico Madrid and former Manchester City and River Plate striker Julian Alvarez.
According to TyC Sports, it is Alvarez who will start for Argentina against Venezuela this evening. The two teams are meeting in a qualifying match for next World Cup.
Meanwhile, Alvarez’s new teammate Thiago Almada will start in the attacking trio as well.
Then, it will be Argentina captain Lionel Messi completing the trio.
