Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta talked to the press before Saturday’s Champions League final against PSG.
Speaking to RSI via FCInterNews, the former Juventus chief executive addressed several hot topics, including the upcoming game.
One of the most accomplished executives in Italian football, Beppe Marotta, has re-established Inter among Europe’s elite.
Indeed, his trained eye and shrewd market deals have laid the groundwork for Inter’s return to prominence.
During his tenure, the Nerazzurri have won two Serie A titles and qualified for two Champions League finals.
After a 2023 loss to Manchester City, they’ll lock horns with PSG this weekend, seeking amends for a busted Scudetto defense.
Despite Inter’s domestic woes, Marotta believes the Italian giants have what it takes to beat Les Parisiens.
“I really think so. This group has grown over the years,” he stated.
“After the experience in Istanbul, there’s greater awareness of our own capabilities. We’re ready to fight for it until the end.”
However, he’s fully aware of the magnitude of the task ahead.
“PSG is still a very strong team. That said, today we’re aware that we’re here to be protagonists, not just participants.”
Marotta has provided head coach Simone Inzaghi with ammunition to gun for the most prestigious club title in European football.
Therefore, he’s competent to talk about the significance of expertise in the game.
“I believe the core business of a football club is playing football,” Marotta added.
“People often talk about big organizational structures with top managers who, however, lack affinity with the world of football.
“I advocate for football expertise and experience. That’s an added value not every club possesses.
“We have a team on the pitch and a team off the pitch, made up of many executives and people with great passion, a sense of belonging, and a strong work ethic.
“These are values that take you far.”
Before taking over the reins at Inter, Marotta had helped Juventus reach two Champions League finals.
Despite losing all three finals at both clubs, he is proud of his achievements.
“Yes, I’ve been fortunate to manage two very strong clubs like Juventus and Inter, and that has certainly helped.
“It’s true, these are four finals, but the credit must be shared with the teams I reached those finals with.”
