Inter Milan are ready to find a new role for midfielder Davide Frattesi after rejecting interest from Newcastle United.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They also note that the Nerazzurri will hand the 25-year-old a new contract.

Inter Milan did not necessarily receive an official bid for Davide Frattesi from Newcastle United late in the summer transfer window.

However, the Magpies did not hide their interest. They made contact with the Nerazzurri about potentially signing Frattesi.

Nevertheless, Inter slapped a high price tag on the Italian international. The Gazzetta dello Sport anticipate that they wanted €45-50 million for Frattesi.

Inter Ready To Find New Role For Davide Frattesi After Turning Down Newcastle

According to the Gazzetta, Inter envision a new and more prominent role for Frattesi starting this season.

The 25-year-old had had to fight for playing time under Simone Inzaghi. And it was a losing battle more often than not.

On the other hand, new coach Cristian Chivu appreciates Frattesi’s qualities more than Inzaghi did.

Therefore, the former Sassuolo midfielder could definitely become a regular starter this season.

Therefore, the Gazzetta note, Inter want to extend Frattesi’s contract.

The Italian international’s current deal runs until the end of June 2028. Inter want to extend it by a couple years.

The Gazzetta report that Inter are ready to bump Frattesi’s wages up to €2.8 million net per season.
