Jadon Sancho eyed by Atletico Madrid

Manchester United’s rebuild has dominated attention over recent months, but former players continue to generate headlines of their own after departing Old Trafford.

One of Erik ten Hag’s biggest transfer sagas finally came to an end earlier this month when Jadon Sancho officially became a free agent, bringing his difficult spell with United to a close after his contract expired.

Now, the England international has another major European club showing interest.

According to reports from BILD, Atletico Madrid have entered the race to sign Jadon Sancho and are closely monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation as they weigh up attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.

While Diego Simeone’s side are understood to admire the former United winger, no formal negotiations or direct contact with the player’s representatives have taken place at this stage.

Borussia Dortmund remain firmly in the conversation as speculation surrounding a third spell at Signal Iduna Park refuses to disappear.

Sancho enjoyed the best football of his career in Germany and is reportedly very open to returning to Dortmund once again.

However, any deal would only happen under strict financial conditions.

Despite being available on a free transfer, Dortmund are unwilling to hand the winger a signing bonus.

The Bundesliga club also expect Jadon Sancho to accept a significant reduction in salary, with reports suggesting his basic wage would sit around €5 million, while the remainder of his contract would be heavily based on performance-related incentives.

Only if those demands are accepted would Dortmund seriously push to complete a deal.

Their interest could also intensify depending on other outgoing business.

Karim Adeyemi has now moved to Barcelona, and his departure leaves Dortmund needing another option across the wide attacking positions.

Interest in Sancho has stretched beyond Germany and Spain throughout the summer.

Last month, Turkish side Besiktas were also reported to be preparing an offer as they explored the possibility of signing the former Manchester United attacker.

After leaving Old Trafford without a club, Sancho now appears to have no shortage of admirers, with Atletico Madrid becoming the latest side to join what is quickly developing into a competitive race for his signature.
