JJ Gabriel has been offered a new contract by Manchester United as the club desperately attempts to retain one of its brightest academy prospects.

The teenager turned 16 on Tuesday, reaching another milestone in a remarkable journey through United’s youth system.

Gabriel has attracted enormous attention for his close control, fearless dribbling and extraordinary goalscoring ability.

His reputation exploded when he scored twice on his Under-18 debut against Leeds United at just 14.

Last season, Gabriel scored 26 goals in 29 appearances across the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup, earning the league’s Player of the Season award.

His development also brought opportunities around Michael Carrick’s senior squad.

During pre-season, Gabriel featured against Atletico Madrid, becoming United’s youngest-ever player to appear in an unofficial first-team fixture.

However, his relationship with the club deteriorated dramatically last month.

As CentreDevils previously reported, Gabriel requested the cancellation of his registration after growing frustrated with his pathway into senior football.

The youngster has subsequently remained away from training, while several European giants have monitored his situation.

Manchester United make JJ Gabriel contract offer

According to The Guardian, Manchester United have formally offered Gabriel a scholarship contract for next season.

The offer has been submitted to the player, although he has not accepted it.

Crucially, the decision protects United’s entitlement to compensation if Gabriel joins another Premier League club.

A domestic transfer could now generate more than £3 million through a tribunal, potentially alongside a 20% sell-on clause.

However, a move abroad could leave United receiving approximately £350,000 under FIFA compensation regulations.

Real Madrid are reportedly favourites, while Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain remain interested.

Gabriel’s eligibility for an EU passport also creates a potential route overseas before his 18th birthday.

Despite the new offer, The Guardian reports that Gabriel is almost certain to leave following a breakdown in relations with his representatives.

United have reportedly made several attempts to check on his wellbeing during his absence.

For now, the scholarship offer represents an important development, but it does not confirm Gabriel will remain at Old Trafford.
