Jonny Evans has been been through a massive range of roles at Manchester United, from his start in the academy, to being a coach to the first team.
After coming through the academy in 2006, Evans found himself on a series of loans before moving permanently to West Brom in 2015.
Eight years later, after stints with West Brom and Leicester, the former Northern Ireland international returned to Carrington, seeing him end his playing career at his boyhood club.
However, after hanging up his boots, the 38-year-old remained at Old Trafford taking on the role of Loans Manager for the first half of the season, before leaving the post in December 2025.
After a month, Evans was back at Old Trafford, this time as a part of Michael Carrick’s coaching staff, with the former defender being praised for his work with Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro.
Speaking to United Review on the club’s official website, Harry Maguire discussed Jonny Evans and his role in the coaching staff.
The former England international commented: “Jonny is great to have around.”
He continued: “The way that he handles himself and the responsibility that he took on his shoulders when he was a player, he can take that on to coaching as well.
“Just little things like in the session the other day, I was finished and was walking in and could see that Jonny was doing extra work with Leny [Yoro] and Ayden [Heaven].
“Things like that, as a young boy coming through and playing on the biggest stage, sometimes you have to learn and adapt on the pitch and on the stage, but you also can’t forget that you need to improve and you need to work.
“These are young, talented centre-backs and to have Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans coaching them now and giving them little tips, it’s fantastic for them.”
Both Heaven and Yoro were brought in through the 2024/25 campaign, with Yoro signing in the summer under Erik ten Hag and Heaven joining in the winter under Ruben Amorim.
However, despite being signed under former managers, the pair are still seen as future stars for the club.
