Despite Inter Miami advancing to the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup, fans who await a strong PSG in the Round of 16 have some concerns.
The Herons were leading 2-0 in the 65th minute when Luis Suarez scored a brilliant goal that felt like the decisive moment for Inter Miami to top Group A.
Inter Miami would've faced Botafogo in the round of 16, which on paper was the preferred side to play against, but conceding two goals in a span of eight minutes has led to anger from a few stars.
One of the stars who was upset about the 2-2 draw against Palmeiras is Jordi Alba, who came on from the bench in the 66th minute. The Spanish left-back warned his teammates about the next challenge and showed respect to his former manager at Barcelona.
Alba did not hide his frustration that his team conceded two goals at the end of the game, costing them first place in Group A.
After the game, Alba mentioned how the team dropped their level at the end of the game, but is still happy Inter Miami will continue their journey in the Club World Cup.
Jordi Alba: "It’s a pity. You can’t let a game like this slip away when you’re up 2-0, and that’s on us... It’s a shame considering how hard the team worked. In those last 20 minutes, they [Palmeiras] pushed us hard, we were also tired, and in two isolated crosses, the game slipped away. But we should be proud of the work we put in.”
Alba then spoke about Inter Miami's next opponent, PSG, and gave huge praise to the French team's manager, Luis Enrique.
Jordi Alba: "For the club, this kind of achievement is wonderful, and now we’ve got to compete against a PSG side that will be very tough... Now, obviously, we’re talking about the champions of Europe. We know a lot of their players, and the coach – who I was lucky enough to play under – and I’ve always said he’s the best in the world.”
Despite knowing the challenge ahead, Alba shows bravery when discussing how Inter Miami will approach the PSG game.
PSG and Inter Miami will play each other on Sunday, June 29. The Round of 16 match will be played in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The last time Inter Miami played there, they shocked the world by defeating FC Porto 2-1.
