Michael Carrick is still fighting to secure the Manchester United job permanently, and decisions are being made regarding players who may not fit into the long-term project.

Squad selections have only intensified speculation, particularly for those who have struggled to make an impact this season.

United’s attacking depth is expected to be addressed in the next window, and that could come at the cost of certain players.

Joshua Zirkzee is attracting strong interest from Juventus, who are once again exploring a move to bring the forward back to Serie A.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Old Lady is preparing to submit a fresh bid for the Dutchman.

Joshua Zirkzee only arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2024 from Bologna for a fee in the region of £36 million, but his time in England has not gone to plan.

After two underwhelming seasons, Zirkzee is now believed to be open to a fresh start, with Italy seen as the ideal destination given his previous success in the league.

Juventus are not alone in monitoring his situation either, with AS Roma, Atalanta, Como and Napoli all credited with interest at various stages.

The Turin club are said to be weighing up a renewed approach after failing to land him previously, with approval reportedly already given internally as they prepare for a major attacking overhaul.

Several forwards could leave Juventus this summer, opening the door for a new striker to arrive, and Joshua Zirkzee fits the profile of a player looking to relaunch his career.

United, for their part, are prepared to listen to offers, with the striker now valued at around £26 million, a notable drop from the fee they originally paid.

His situation at the club has not improved under Carrick either, having failed to start a single match since the interim boss took charge.

Across 21 appearances this season, he has managed just two goals and one assist, numbers that underline his struggles to adapt to the Premier League, although most of those has been from the bench.

Tactically, Zirkzee has often been deployed deeper than a traditional number nine, drifting into pockets rather than leading the line, a role that has not fully suited United’s system or attacking structure.

With Carrick favouring a more dynamic and direct approach in forward areas, it appears increasingly likely that the Dutchman will be moved on as part of a wider rebuild.

A return to Serie A, where his technical style previously flourished, may offer him the platform he needs to rediscover his form.
