Kai Havertz’s injury proves to be a decisive blow in Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer plans

It is not often that you see a rival club’s player suffering an injury as a serious blow to your campaign but Tottenham Hotspur seem to find themselves in this very weird situation this summer.

Arsenal understood yesterday that their German striker Kai Havertz had suffered a knee injury with the prognosis not looking great. The Gunners had to make a decision on the reinforcement ahead of the new season.

The lucky thing for Mikel Arteta’s side and the unlucky thing for Thomas Frank’s is the fact that the summer transfer window is still open and the clubs are still able to make reinforcements to cover for injuries.

Arsenal get one over Tottenham with Eze swoop

Now, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have hijacked Tottenham Hotspur’s deal with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze. The Englishman is now set to move to North London but not the N17.

Spurs have been in advanced negotiations for the player for quite some time now. The club had managed to reach an agreement with Eze over a potential move to the N17 and had also reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace.

However, the Eagles had not yet given the green light as they wanted Eze involved in their European encounter today. While Spurs continued to wait for the Englishman, Arsenal have swooped in and changed his mind.

This is the second time this summer that Spurs have missed out on a transfer target, with the Morgan Gibbs-White being quite well documented. The crushing blow here is that they have lost out on this occasion to Arsenal.

A lot of work yet to be done

The rivalry between the two North London clubs stretches back decades and needs no introduction. The two clubs never trade players among one another and the Red side of the city must now be feeling like they managed to get one over the White.

From a Tottenham perspective, they cannot afford to brood over this miss for long. There is still a lot of work to be done in the transfer window and a lot of money left to be spent.

Thomas Frank needs one new attacking midfielder, if not two and the club need to shift their focus to other transfer targets. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Spurs this transfer window and who they potentially target.
