The inevitable is getting closer and it indeed would mark the end of an era when Tottenham Hotspur and Son Heung-min part ways in the coming hours or days. The South Korean confirmed his desire to leave North London this summer.

Having achieved everything there is at Spurs, Son Heung-min wants to move elsewhere for a fresh challenge, and a move to the MLS seems appealing to the veteran. LAFC seem to be the most likely destination.

Now, as per an exclusive report by Ben Jacobs and Tom Bogert on Give Me Sport, LAFC and Tottenham Hotspur are advancing to agree an exit for Son Heung-min in the coming days with a fee expected to be in the ball park of around £15 million.

Glorious 10 years in North London

The 33-year-old attacker joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has spent 10 glorious years in North London. After Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris’ exit, he inherited the captain’s armband.

Last season was a pinnacle in a sense for Son. Although the South Korean might not have performed at a very high level on a personal front in the 2024/25 season but he was the captain when Tottenham finally lifted a trophy after all these years.

Son’s time at Tottenham has seen a lot of evolution. Initially, he came to England as a left-winger who was very pacy and direct and used his immense running power and dribbling ability to get past opponents.

Through the course of his career, the club captain has developed into a much better finisher and has also adapted his game to become a number nine. In the last few years, he has featured quite extensively as a striker after Kane left the club.

A complete transformation

Forever a player who sports a smile and is loved by all, the shy, non-English speaking boy who arrived in North London all those years ago is now set to leave the club as a confident, commanding, English-speaking man.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how much Tottenham get from Son Heung-min’s sale. Although it might help the club financially, for all that the player has done for the club over the years, the priority is allowing him to move elsewhere and continue his career.

It remains to be seen how long it takes before LAFC and Spurs iron out the details to confirm the exit agreement for the 33-year-old. The next few hours should provide a clearer picture. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
