Latest Updates Indicate Chelsea Have Come to Frustrating Transfer Standstill

The Athletic’s latest DealSheet provided updates on teams across the Premier League and their transfer activity. For Chelsea fans, it proves a frustrating read that indicates the club’s hands are tied in the current market. Inactivity on the outgoing side has stalled their aims to bring new players in to fully refresh Enzo Maresca’s attacking options.

Chelsea Have Hit a Frustrating Standstill in the Transfer Market

Outgoing Delays

The story today remains the same as it did a few weeks ago in many cases. Renato Veiga, who is still not being integrated back into the squad, is expected to leave but the team have already rejected multiple bids for the defender. While there are reportedly clubs “in the market” for him, that won’t help them generate any sales right now.

The same can be said of Axel Disasi, frozen out and expected to leave over the summer, he has “firm suitors”, which again, isn’t very helpful in clearing the current logjam in the squad.

Tyrique George got some minutes in pre-season but the manager may be hesitant to play him ahead of Jamie Gittens as his future is also unclear.  There is interest and he could leave either permanently or on loan but this is another one that the Blues would be well-favoured to speed up.

Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are both on the shop window but The Athletic indicates that other teams are playing hardball for the attackers. Bayern Munich want to secure a loan for Nkunku which the player and Chelsea have both rejected. He also has interest but as of yet has no clear exit plan.

Jackson’s price tag is considered the stumbling block. Despite scoring goals in the Premier League and being a proven contributor to an offence, nobody is willing to stump up the £80 million being asked. While four teams have reportedly enquired about his availability, things have yet to go much further.

As it stands, the Blues have a monumental task of trying to shift Jackson, Nkunku, George, Veiga, Disasi, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Carney Chukwuemeka in the remaining days of the window without budging too much from their current terms. If they don’t, they could be left with unnecessary players stuck in the squad and a lack of funds to finish their transfer business.

No Real Updates on Incomings

The DealSheet touches on the two main stories that have been floating around Chelsea for weeks now. Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons are still the main apple in the eye of the Sporting Directors. Even The Athletic have little to say that hasn’t already been reported for weeks however.

Garnacho only wants a move to the London side, talks are ongoing, but there’s been little headway actively made at this point. After a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace exposed some of their weakness on the left-hand side, the Blues’ negotiating position just got a little more difficult.
