Lazio are facing an emergency in the attack, but they’re counting on Boulaye Dia and Mattia Zaccagni to pull off swift recoveries.

The Biancocelesti have been dealt a major blow recently, as Taty Castellanos suffered a grade II muscle injury in training , which should rule him out of action for 45 days. Maurizio Sarri has now been deprived of his first-choice striker, but reports in the Italian media discuss the potential return of two other key players.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Dia is now facing a race against time to overcome his ankle issue. The Senegalese star has been plagued with this recurring issue since November last year. He was supposed to join his national team camp for the final two World Cup qualifers, but was then forced to pull out due to his condition.

As the Roman newspaper explains, Lazio will now try to accelerate Dia’s recovery, so Sarri will have a centre-forward to lean on in Sunday’s clash against Atalanta. The 28-year-old could once again resort to painkillers.

On the other hand, La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi ) doesn’t expect Dia to make it, but instead tips Tijjani Noslin to fill in the centre-forward role. Nevertheless, the same source claims that Zaccagni is feeling better, and if he manages to train with the group on Friday, he’ll receive a call-up for the trip to Bergamo. This would resolve the left-wing dilemma.

However, Sarri and his technical staff must be cautious in their approach to avoid another scenario similar to the Derby della Capitale , when they fielded Nicolo Rovella and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru despite their physical concerns, and they both suffered injuries in the first half.
