Brentford are reportedly willing to raise their offer for Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri, but it might not be sufficient to seal the deal.
The Bees have cemented themselves as the Premier League’s ultimate Dark Horse this season, currently sitting in fifth place. Hence, everyone at the club is hoping for a historic European qualification, so the management is trying to do its part by reinforcing Keith Andrews’ squad in January.
Brenftord have identified Cancellieri as the right profile to enhance their wing department. The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season following his return from back-to-back loan spells at Empoli and Parma, as he managed to lock himself a starting role in Maurizio Sarri’s squad.
The English club sent scouts to watch the Italian player in action against Fiorentina on Wednesday and Hellas Verona on Sunday, where he occupied various roles in the final third amidst the selection crisis. Brentford were reportedly convinced by the winger’s displays. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà revealed on Monday that they’re expected to make an official bid worth circa €15 million by Wednesday.
According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio have already received Brentford’s offer. While the transfer market doesn’t provide information regarding the figures, he added that the Premier League boys would be willing to go higher if the Biancocelesti turn down the opening bid.
#Brentford ha fatto un’offerta alla #Lazio per #Cancellieri. I biancocelesti la ritengono bassa, gli inglesi pronti a migliorarla. Il calciatore però non è convintissimo della destinazione e ci sta pensando.

However, Brentford are facing a more significant issue, as Cancellieri isn’t fully convinced by the destination. The player is reportedly taking his time to reflect on his future and decide whether he’s willing to leave his native Rome and join the West Londoners.
If Cancellieri ends up departing the Italian capital, Lazio will be expected to bring in a replacement, while Gustav Isaksen would have the opportunity to regain his starting role on the right wing, despite his unconvincing displays in recent weeks.
