With the summer transfer window deadline fast approaching, clubs are scrambling to complete last-minute deals. Leicester City are one of these, as Bilal El Khannouss’ imminent exit has led to a search for a replacement. The Moroccan has been a prominent part of City’s squad for the last few years, and was the bright spark in a dismal campaign. Even this season, the 21-year-old continued this form with two assists against Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day. Therefore, could this Premier League midfielder be the right replacement for the Foxes?

Leicester City Secure Loan Deal As Premier League Player Is Likely To Join

Aaron Ramsey: On The Move?

As reported by Sky Sports News, Aaron Ramsey is set to join the Foxes. A loan deal for the 22-year-old comes following an injury-riddled 2024/25 campaign, which saw Burnley earn promotion back to the Premier League with a staggering 100 points. Ramsey, alongside teammate Michael Obafemi, are going out on loan, as Obafemi is likely to sign for VFL Bochum, a club with a close connection to the Foxes.

Despite being 22 years old, Ramsey offers his own experience in the second tier. He featured for both Middlesbrough and Norwich back in 2022/23, and managed to tally eight goals and four assists in his 30 appearances. The move makes sense given City’s youthful approach this season and the need to add players.

The focus all summer has been to sell players, who are on high wages and want to leave. As a result, the likes of Mads Hermansen, James Justin, and Wilfred Ndidi have all made way for sides across Europe.

How Does This Affect Leicester City?

Bringing in players has been the priority for the last week, so adding a player of Ramsey’s quality is always a positive. Last time out in the Championship, he amassed strong numbers, which bodes incredibly well for a move to City. He was in the top 10 percentile for progressive passes with 4.97 per 90. This is significant as the progression from midfield has been missing in the opening fixtures. Without Harry Winks or El Khannouss, the ability to break lines and make tricky passes has been non-existent.

Upon his return to the Burnley side this season, Ramsey found the net in the fourth minute to help the Clarets to a 2-1 win. This led to manager Scott Parker praising his midfielder by stating, “He took his goal so well and I thought his overall performance tonight was very good.”

This knack for scoring from midfield could also be a prominent part of his game under Marti Cifuentes. Evidence to support this is that during the 2022/23 season, he was in the top six percentile for attacking midfielders and wingers for finding the net. A major difference between the current side and Enzo Maresca’s of two years ago is the midfield. Kiernan Dewsbury Hall and Wilfred Ndidi managed a combined tally of 16 goals that season, and with both players no longer present, a new profile needs to take the reins.
