Tottenham Hotspur have had some wretched luck so far this summer transfer window. Despite having the money to spend and Daniel Levy backing the manager, they have failed to bring in all their preferred transfer targets.
Some of the first moves that Thomas Frank made once he replaced Ange Postecoglou as the new manager of the North London club was to bring in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and Joao Palhinha on loan Bayern Munich.
However, their window so far has been headlined more by their misses than their hits. The Morgan Gibbs-White saga is well documented but the one that hurt more was Arsenal hijacking the deal for Eberechi Eze from under their noses.

Now, as per Fichajes, lightning seems to be striking twice this summer as Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie has made the decision to snub Tottenham and move to North London rivals Arsenal in a potential move this summer. Fabrizio Romano has also backed the same claim, revealing the player has agreed personal terms with the Gunners.
The 23-year-old is at a crucial juncture in his career. Having been one of Xabi Alonso’s first names on the team sheet at Bayer Leverkusen for the past few seasons, he has made the decision to take the next step with Premier League the likely destination.
A left-footed, “modern” defender, Hincapie is the kind of player any manager would love to have at their disposal. Strong defensively but equally good with the ball at his feet, he is a rare combination of two worlds.
The Ecuadorian is also very versatile and capable of playing at left-back. He has done this on quite a number of occasions for Alonso’s Leverkusen. Thomas Frank would have loved to have such a profile in his squad.
However, the last thing we need at the N17 is a player who doesn’t want to be here. If Hincapie prefers a move to the N7, then so be it. What Spurs need are players who want to wear the jersey and would give anything for the badge.
The next few days in the summer transfer window should provide a clearer picture of how this Hincapie saga plays out. As of now, it looks like Spurs are nowhere in the picture, but funnier things have happened in the market. Only time will tell how it plays out.
