As things stand, 2025 will be Lionel Messi’s final year as a professional footballer, although there are plenty of chances for him to also continue playing in 2026 as he is currently scheduled to be involved for Argentina during their defence of the World Cup.
Messi has not yet fully committed to remaining at Argentina until the 2026 World Cup, which will be held across North America. However, it is expected that he will do so, especially if he decides to extend his Inter Miami contract, which expires at the end of next year.
As per TyC Sports (via MD), Inter Miami are already planning to offer Messi a contract extension that would see him through to the end of the 2026 MLS season.
As things stand, Messi’s idea would be to sign that deal if it came his way. He is very comfortable in Miami, where he has been based since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023.

Since joining Liverpool, Alexander Isak has struggled to replicate the electric form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers. He joined the Reds in a Premier League record move but the former Newcastle United striker has still not managed to score a goal in the league for his new club. Isak has scored one goal for Liverpool and it came against Southampton in the EFL Cup. Isak’s biggest issue has been consistency in front of goal and considering his goal record in the past, it is a huge surprise to see that. What Liverpool think about Alexander Isak’s struggles Fabrizio Romano has confirmed what Liverpool think about the Sweden international striker. Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said: “Alexander Isak basically didn’t have any kind of pre-season. Okay, he was working separately from the group and also with a private trainer, but it’s not the same thing as having a proper pre-season starting in July and working for two months until the Premier League starts. So it’s something completely different. “Also on the mental point of view – Isak was basically in a kind of war with Newcastle to leave the club and have the opportunity to go to Liverpool. So it’s been a complicated summer, especially physically. “Liverpool are convinced that as soon as the player is back in good condition, he’s going to shine, he’s going to score goals. So again, Liverpool are not worried.” Isak needs more time to get completely fit Isak has been unlucky with fitness issues since making the move to Anfield this summer. The striker did not have a proper pre-season and the moment he arrived at the club, he did not look the same striker that we all watched shine for Newcastle. Isak’s Liverpool chapter remains a work in progress, one that depends on whether he can adapt mentally and tactically to the demands of Anfield’s relentless stage. Liverpool are confident he will come good and they have every reason to believe that considering his past record, quality and potential to get even better. ‘I would not be surprised’ – Romano hints at surprise January exit for Liverpool star
The Dallas Cowboys are about to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football to close out Week 9 of the 2025 NFL regular season. As always, the teams announced their inactive players 90 minutes before kickoff. For the Cowboys, the main takeaway lies at the safety position. One week after being down to one healthy safety, things are looking slightly better. Donovan Wilson is out again with a shoulder/elbow injury but Juanyeh Thomas is back after being listed as questionable on the final injury report. Thomas is the Cowboys' third-best safety and he's played well in limited playing time, to the point many believe he should be promoted to a starting role over Wilson. Over the last couple of weeks, Thomas dealt with migraines that affected his vision. Now, he is back. Though the Cowboys are still very banged up at safety, Thomas' return should go a long way in Week 9. Perhaps he will be tasked with covering standout tight end Trey McBride. In the last two weeks, McBride has 18 catches for 146 receiving yards and three touchdowns. If not, Thomas could help bracketing WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Either way, it's important he's on the field for tonight's game and I'd expect him to start. He may not be a star but Thomas back on the field is a big boost given the team's situation on defense. Full list of Cowboys' inactives for Week 9 vs Cardinals S Alijah Clark S Donovan Wilson OL Ajani Cornelius OL Hakeem Adeniji DT Mazi Smith RB Jaydon Blue WR Jonathan Mingo Other notes on Cowboys' inactives After Brian Schottenheimer made comments about Jaydon Blue's inconsistency, he's a healthy scratch. He's benched over Malik Davis. Starting center Cooper Beebe is back and ready to go. LB DeMarvion Overshown and CB Shavon Revel Jr. remain on Injured Reserve even though they're back at practice. LB Jack Sanborn isn't among the Cowboys' inactives because he was placed on Injured Reserve leading up to the game. Being down safeties Alijah Clark and Donovan Wilson leaves the team with very little depth at safety. Don't be surprised if Dallas works cornerbacks into the position. The battle at nose tackle continues. This time, it's seventh-round rookie Jay Toia taking over the position while Mazi Smith returns to healthy scratch status ahead of the NFL trade deadline. If Dallas can get any interest on their former first-round pick, it wouldn't be a surprise if he's moved. Easier said than done, however. Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn stood at the podium Monday afternoon, ready to take accountability. He didn’t dance around it, didn’t make excuses, didn’t try to spin it. He owned it completely. “I get that. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, too, and, man, I missed it,” Quinn said. “That is 100 percent on me.” What Quinn “missed” was pulling Jayden Daniels from Sunday night’s blowout loss to Seattle before his franchise quarterback’s left elbow bent in ways elbows aren’t supposed to bend. With the Commanders trailing 38-7 and just over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Daniels scrambled right and got absolutely planted by Seahawks Linebacker Drake Thomas at the 4-yard line. The result? A dislocated elbow has Daniels out indefinitely. The Game Plan That Went Sideways Here’s the thing that makes this whole situation sting even more. Quinn actually had a plan. He explained that the possession where Daniels got hurt was supposed to be the last one for him and other key starters like Tight End Zach Ertz and Left Tackle Laremy Tunsil. They were going to keep things vanilla. But here’s what Quinn didn’t account for: Daniels being, well, Daniels. “We weren’t going to have any read-run plays, meaning no carries for the quarterback on a run,” Quinn explained. “And honestly, man, that’s where I missed it. Of course, he can scramble. He’s Jayden. It’s what he’s special at.” And there it is. The cruel irony of the situation. The very thing that makes Daniels special—his ability to extend plays, to turn nothing into something—is exactly what got him hurt in a game that was already decided. When Bad Gets Worse If you’re keeping score at home, Daniels’ injury is just the latest gut punch in what’s become a season from hell. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year had already missed time with a hamstring injury and sat out Weeks 3 and 4 with a knee issue. Now this. But wait, there’s more! Cornerback Marshon Lattimore tore his ACL and is done for the season. Wide Receiver Luke McCaffrey broke his collarbone on the opening kickoff. The list of players on injured reserve reads like a depth chart: Austin Ekeler, Deatrich Wise Jr., Dorance Armstrong, Will Harris, and Noah Brown. Terry McLaurin has missed five games with a quad injury. At 3-6, the Commanders aren’t just dealing with injuries—they’re being systematically dismantled by them. The Accountability That Matters Look, coaches say “that’s on me” all the time. It has become such a cliché that it often rings hollow. But listening to Quinn on Monday, you could hear the genuine pain in his voice. This wasn’t some rehearsed PR speak. This was a coach who knows he screwed up and has to live with the consequences. Marcus Mariota will now get the start against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, which feels like throwing a life preserver to someone while you’re both already underwater. Mariota is a solid backup, but he’s not Daniels. Nobody is. The decision to leave Daniels in wasn’t malicious. Quinn wasn’t trying to run up the score or make some statement. He just wanted to give his guys one more series. But in football, as in life, good intentions
