Liverpool officially confirm pre-season friendly against Manchester United

Liverpool have officially confirmed a pre-season meeting with Manchester United.

The rivalry between the two clubs remains one of the biggest in English football.

Their last competitive meeting ended in a dramatic 3-2 victory for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick’s side secured Champions League qualification with that result.

Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal after Liverpool had fought back from two goals down.

United have since started their preparations for the new campaign.

Carrick’s team opened pre-season with a 1-0 defeat against Wrexham in Helsinki.

The match gave several academy players a chance to impress and allowed new signing Andrey Santos to make his debut.

Now, another meeting between the two rivals have been added to the summer schedule.

Liverpool confirm Manchester United pre-season fixture

Liverpool confirmed on their official website that Liverpool Women will face Manchester United Women on August 23.

The behind-closed-doors friendly will take place at Carrington Training Centre.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm.

The game forms part of Liverpool Women’s five-match pre-season programme ahead of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League campaign.

Gareth Taylor’s side will begin their schedule against Sheffield United on August 8.

They will then face Leicester City one week later and then travel to Birmingham City on August 19 before visiting Manchester United four days later.

Their final pre-season match will be against Durham at St Helens Stadium on August 30.

The fixture against United will help both teams build fitness before the new league season.

It could also give several summer signings an opportunity to feature.

Liverpool have already added Vivien Endemann, Sara Agrez, Mari Ward, Khiara Keating and Mao Itamura to their squad.

Although this is not a meeting between the men’s first teams, another chapter of the Manchester United and Liverpool rivalry will still take place this summer.
