Liverpool have confirmed the agreement of a player who had attracted interest from several of England’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United.
While strengthening the midfield remains United’s main focus this summer, with an agreement already reached for Ederson and only the official unveiling still pending, recruitment plans are also being made in other areas of the pitch.
The Red Devils have been linked with Rafael Leao.
The 26-year-old winger recently revealed he will leave AC Milan.
In recent months, RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has reportedly attracted interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool.
Now, another attacking talent appears set to continue his development at Anfield.
According to the Daily Mirror, United were among the clubs monitoring the winger alongside Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, Liverpool have won the race for his signature.
The Merseyside club officially confirmed the deal on their website this week.
The player in question is Josh Abe.
Liverpool announced Abe as part of their latest intake of first-year scholars during a special signing event at Anfield attended by club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish.
That means the attacker will remain with Liverpool despite significant interest from rival clubs.
Josh Abe enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.
He quickly established himself as one of Liverpool’s most highly-rated young prospects.
The winger scored nine goals for Liverpool Under-18s this season before his season was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
He made history earlier this year by becoming the youngest-ever player to feature in the UEFA Youth League.
Liverpool were determined to keep hold of the right-winger and have now secured his immediate future.
The scholarship agreement represents another significant step in Abe’s development.
He is expected to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 next year.
For United, meanwhile, attention remains focused on strengthening Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
