Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a cruel blow in recent days as Son Heung-min announced his intention to leave the club. It is indeed an emotional moment for the club as one of it’s legends bids adieu to the place he has called home for 10 years.
Although Son might not have featured much as a starter in recent seasons, no one can deny the quality that he obviously possesses. He was always a talisman, even in his latter years at the club, and the attacking returns are difficult to replicate.
Of course, Spurs have a squad capable of coping with the loss of the South Korean superstar. Mathys Tel is a player who is similar to Son in the sense that he can play on the left-wing and also as a striker.
As a conventional number nine, Tottenham have Dominic Solanke, who always does well when given a chance. However, the same cannot be said about Richarlison, who has struggled in North London since his arrival from Everton. The Brazilian’s best moments as a Spurs player have come off the pitch with his jibes at Arsenal on social media.
Now, former England international Chris Waddle, speaking to Liverpool Echo via Football London has tipped Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez to join a club like Tottenham this summer and has huge hopes for his potential to come good.
The Uruguayan striker has been placed on the chopping block at the Merseyside club and Waddle is of the opinion that a move to Spurs or somewhere like that could help bring out the 20-goal striker in him. Here is what he said:
“Darwin Nunez is a big guy, he’s powerful, quite pacey. He’s got all the attributes you need. The problem he’s had in England is that he can’t put the ball in the net and that’s what he was bought for.”
“For Nunez, if he wants to go to Tottenham or somewhere like that, he does need to get away from Liverpool, the problem you get is whoever signs him is that supporters are going to say, why have we signed, he never scores, he misses chances.”
“I think if he gets off to a good start at a new club, he could end up with 20 to 30 goals. He’s got it in him.”
It is worth noting that Tottenham aren’t necessarily actively pursuing or even interested in signing Nunez this summer. However, there is no denying what Waddle is saying about the ex-Benfica striker.

Nunez’s time at Anfield might not have played out as expected, but he has all the qualities to become one of the best strikers in Europe. All he needs to do is to get his finishing boots sharpened and on-point.
However, Tottenham don’t necessarily need a player like Nunez at the moment, unless they were going to sell someone like Richarlison. Solanke is good enough to lead the line for the English club.
It remains to be seen how Nunez’s career progresses. His move away from Liverpool almost seems set in stone and it remains to be seen where the Uruguayan plays his football next and how he performs.
