A local press outlet has floated the idea of a Chelsea player returning to play for them in the winter transfer market.

Of course, the January window is never as busy as the summer window, but already we are starting to hear of some things bubbling up.

The story of Marc Guiu of Chelsea is a strange one. We all know what happened in the summer when he played just a few games for his on loan club Sunderland before being recalled right back to Chelsea to cover an injury to Liam Delap.

Delap is expected to be back playing again around Christmas time, right before the January window. So what will happen with Guiu then? Could he return to Sunderland on loan until the end of the season?

Reports emerged yesterday that Guiu went to Enzo Maresca and asked about getting more minutes at Chelsea since his return to the club.

And Guiu got his wish right away, coming on in Chelsea’s win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday and impressing pundit Alan Shearer with his performance.

Guiu back to Sunderland?

The Sunderland Echo say that Guiu could return to them in the January transfer window as having now played for two clubs this season, if he leaves Chelsea it can’t be for anywhere but Sunderland.

They continue to admit though that in reality, most of those who matter see it as a long shot. Guiu himself has spoken publicly about his happiness at Chelsea, and Brobbey’s arrival at Sunderland means that there are no guarantees Sunderland will be in the market for a striker anyway. As per The Athletic, it is at this stage a move that no one at either club has discussed in any meaningful way.
