Tottenham Hotspur are bracing for a crucial summer, where multiple changes are expected to happen in the current roster and also at the helm.
Thomas Frank is set to become the new Spurs boss, and he is certain to have a say on the transfer dealings of the summer transfer window. Simultaneously, Daniel Levy and Johan Lange are also scouring the market for fresh blood that needs to be pumped into the squad after a forgettable domestic season.
The North Londoners could be in for changes in attack, having already decided to not trigger the buy option in Timo Werner’s loan contract from RB Leipzig. This has seen him return to RB Leipzig. Son Heung-min has entered the final year of his contract, and Spurs are planning to cash him in amid Saudi Arabia interest. Furthermore, Richarlison has been touted with a move back to Everton, while there is still no clarity over Mathys Tel’s future.
In possible search for reinforcements in attack, Spurs have now been boosted in the pursuit of one of their summer targets. According to Football Insider senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, West Ham United will unwillingly sell Mohammed Kudus in this summer transfer window.
Following a poor 2024/25 campaign, the Hammers are facing a mass exodus of players this summer as their contracts or loan deals with the club expire. These players will need to be replaced sufficiently with players who can help the club challenge for spots in the top half of the table next term, which means sales could be required to reshape the squad.
As a result, West Ham will have to sacrifice a big name and that could come in the form of Mohammed Kudus, who apart from Tottenham is also wanted by Newcastle United and Chelsea.
“West Ham probably, reluctantly, will sell him, because they know they have to, sort of fund their own rebuild of the squad, and Kudus will be sacrificed because of that,” (h/t Football Insider).
Kudus had an excellent debut season with West Ham, netting 18 goals and registering 10 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. However, the Ghanaian international’s performance levels massively dipped this past campaign, where he only managed nine goal contributions in 32 outings. It was a collective failure from the Irons that led to the sacking of Julen Lopetegui after just 22 games and replaced by Graham Potter in January 2025.
At 24, Kudus certainly has his best years ahead of him, and Tottenham could hugely benefit from his qualities. Capable of playing in multiple attacking positions, the 24-year-old would improve the Lilywhites’ potency in the final third and squad depth. With his ability to drive past players with the ball and unpredictability, he’d add something different to the team that will be managed by Thomas Frank next term.
Interestingly, Kudus has an £85million release clause in his contract. If Spurs can negotiate a lower fee rather than paying the full release clause, we must sign the African star.
