Luis Palma delivered an influential performance for Lech Poznan on Sunday, playing a key role in rescuing a valuable result that could prove crucial in the ongoing title race in Poland…

The Honduran winger has rediscovered his form during his loan spell, having struggled to make a lasting impression during his previous stint with Olympiacos in Greece.

He has now registered 17 goal contributions in 41 appearances this season, including eight goals and nine assists, but his impact off the bench at the weekend stood out in particular.

Poznan were trailing 3-1 at home to GKS Katowice when Palma was introduced in the 68th minute. Within six minutes, he set up Daniel Hakans to make it 3-2, before finding the net himself six minutes later to draw his side level.

The Ekstraklasa title race remains incredibly tight, with only six points separating leaders Poznan from seventh-placed Katowice, while several other sides remain firmly in contention.

Despite his resurgence in Poland, Palma is still believed to be targeting a return to Celtic’s first-team plans ahead of next season.

Speaking last month, Luis Palma said: “I had a great time at Celtic; I really enjoyed it. I’d like a second chance; I’m still under contract with them, I’m still part of the club, and if they say I need to come back, I’ll do my very best.’

“My dream is to return to a top-flight league; for me, the Scottish league was a top-flight league.”

“I got to play in the Champions League, which is what every player wants to do – that dream hasn’t died yet. I want to feel that sensation of playing in a match like that again.”

Palma is on borrowed time at Celtic and with a huge rebuild coming in the summer on the player and manager front, it would be surprising to see him again in a Hoops jersey. Or another way of looking at it is that he’s probably better than most of the wingers who have arrived at the club since he was sent out on loan!
