Man U vs Chelsea – Team News: Enzo Maresca tries new defender setup to take on Man U

Chelsea face Manchester United at Old Trafford in just over an hour, and the teams are in!

The season is still young but there were already a lot of questions for Enzo Maresca about who he would pick, who is fit, who needs a rest, who is setting in and so forth.

With a tough game against Bayern Munich in midweek there were bound to be changes, and they start at the back. Robert Sanchez is still in goal, but after that it’s all different. Malo Gusto is replaced at right back by Reece James, who is taken out of his midfield role.

Trevoh Chalobah keeps his place at centre back, but playing with him is Wesley Fofana, who is finally fit to start a game in the middle, as we suggested in our predicted XI. Marc Cucurella is at left back.

In midfield, it’s the usual pair of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Ahead of them is Cole Palmer, who looked to have aggravated his groin injury in midweek but is given another shot.

Also a we predicted, Estevao Willian is back in for another start, taking Palmer’s place on the wing while Pedro Neto keeps his place on the left.

Joao Pedro is wheeled out to play up top.

Here are the full team line-ups for Manchester United vs Chelsea (kick off at 17:30 GMT)

CHELSEA:

Maresca banks on his favourite defender to add to setup

Fofana is Maresca’s favourite defender and we saw how much better the team was when he was present at the start of last season.

He struggled at right back against Brentford last week, but it at least gave him the minutes he needed to build up and be ready to play in the middle today. If he can stay fit and shake off the rust quickly that’s a major upgrade for this team.
