Man United goalkeeper target who chose Parma opens up on transfer decision

Before Zion Suzuki signed with Parma in 2024, there was plenty of talk about a potential move to Manchester United.

Andre Onana’s two seasons at United have been inconsistent and the Red Devils are already looking for a change between the sticks.

Altay Bayindir’s error against Arsenal last weekend only added to their concerns. His mistake led directly to a 1-0 defeat, which did not he lp matters.

This summer, United have reportedly looked into several options, including Emiliano Martinez and Senne Lammens.

Ruben Amorim may want another option in goal before the window closes, but whether that happens is still up in the air.

United In Focus previously reported on four potential replacements for Andre Onana, including Zion Suzuki of Parma, who was linked to Manchester United during Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Interest has not faded, as the club still follows Suzuki. But despite past links to bigger clubs, he seems content with his decision to join Parma.

Suzuki has since built a reputation as one of Serie A’s standout young goalkeepers. When asked about speculation linking him to other teams, he told Tuttomercatoweb:

“I know there were a lot of rumors about me, but I’m totally focused on Parma and preparing to start the season well. Parma made me a fantastic offer, so I immediately decided to accept and join this club. Last year was an opportunity to grow, and I’m really happy with my choice.”

Looking back on his debut campaign in Italy, he said: “In the end we achieved our goal which was to stay in Serie A. I’ve grown a lot and it was a good season.”

Suzuki also spoke about what he learned from his first year in Italy: “It taught me the importance of preparation because only if you train well and in a certain way can you perform well.

“First of all I want to reduce the number of goals conceded because last season we conceded a lot. That’s my first personal goal, then as a team we want to raise the bar and not just fight for survival.”

Potential goalkeeper changes for Manchester United in 2025/26

Even with three goalkeepers on the roster, there are still doubts among fans about whether any of them can truly anchor the defence.

Onana is expected to remain the first-choice option, despite a run of inconsistent form across his first two seasons at Old Trafford.

Bayindir will stay in the backup role, with Tom Heaton also in the mix as a third-choice option.

With time ticking down before the window closes, there is not much room left to make changes between the posts.
