Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho has approved a move to Napoli this summer to end his tumultuous tenure in England. The England international had an infamous fallout with former United boss Erik ten Hag, leading to two different loan moves.
Current United boss Ruben Amorim has already decided that every on-loan player will permanently leave the club under his reign. The former Sporting CP boss has struggled to implement his ideas into the senior team he inherited from Ten Hag.
As Amorim plans to have a massive squad overhaul this summer, Man United are actively selling surplus to raise funds. The Red Devils have faced financial issues, leading to some infamous decision-making from the hierarchy in the name of cost-cutting.
Meanwhile, surplus players like Sancho enjoy massive wage packages due to their lucrative contracts that he has failed to justify. The 25-year-old joined United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m and is part of many high-spending failed signings by the club.
According to Sky Sport Italy, Sancho has verbally agreed to join Napoli as United demands €25 million (£21.3m) for him. We recently covered how Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to return Sancho to United after his last season’s loan spell.
Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, along with AC Milan, are also interested in the 25-year-old during this summer window. However, the persistent problem in negotiation remains as Sancho’s wages are a big obstacle for all the interested clubs.
The Englishman’s inconsistency and off-field behaviour issues make him a big risk for any club, particularly with his financial package. Both Sancho and United might have to make financial sacrifices to part ways during this transfer window.
Rest assured, the two parties cannot co-exist, and it is detrimental to the project that Amorim intends to kickstart next season. United have a lot of positions to cover before the summer window ends, leaving less room to have a long negotiation over any surplus player.
