Tottenham face a big battle to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki as Manchester City and Manchester United lead the race

Tottenham Hotspur are heading towards arguably their biggest summer transfer window in recent years.

The Europa League triumph in Bilbao did salvage a season full of disappointment to some extent. Yet, a 17th-place finish in the Premier League cannot be overlooked, which has left Ange Postecoglou’s future uncertain at N17. Daniel Levy must quickly decide whether to retain the Australian at the helm or part ways with him before moving onto the recruitment plans.

Tottenham have struggled in the final third of the pitch this past season. Key players like Son Heung-min, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison blow hot and cold for large parts of the campaign. Although Brennan Johnson finished as the club’s top scorer, he did not perform consistently and went missing for many games.

With Richarlison and Timo Werner heading for the exit doors in the summer, Levy is looking to bring in a new attacker to add some quality in the final third and provide squad depth. It has been reported in recent weeks and months that Tottenham are interested in signing Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki. They have been admirers of the prolific attacker’s talent, and want to bring him to North London this summer.

Rayan Cherki is on course to enter the transfer market as one of the highly coveted players thanks to his sensational season with Lyon. One of the most exciting talents in the world for some time now, the France youth international delivered 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions to enjoy the best season of fledgling career.

The 21-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his contract, so the French club will look to cash in on the player right now as they do not intend to lose him on a free next year. The versatile attacker, who confirmed he will depart his boyhood club this summer, is available for €22m, thanks to the release clause in his current contract.

However, now according to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Manchester City and Manchester United are leading the race for Cherki’s signature. The Frenchman has snubbed offers from other leagues as he wants to play in the Premier League. He has narrowed down his options to one league, setting his sights on joining one of England’s biggest clubs.

This development should come as a big blow for Tottenham. The maverick playmaker’s skill set and potential, coupled with his paltry release, has been the reason for attraction from majority of Europe’s leading clubs. The France Under-21 international ticks a lot of boxes and would be a terrific option to elevate the Spurs squad.

At the moment, Man City and Man United are understood to be ahead of the Lilywhites in the race. If Tottenham want to secure Cherki’s services ahead of the Mancunian duo, Levy has to sell our club’s project and ambitions well.
