Manchester City are looking to reward Kevin De Bruyne’s loyalty to the club with a contract extension. The City legend has just returned from a long injury layoff and the champions intend to reward the midfielder with a new contract.
Simon Mullock of the Mirror reports that the champions intend to offer De Bruyne a deal until the end of the 2026 season. He further reports that the midfielder is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. Mullock adds that De Bruyne could earn £1 million per week if he moved to the Gulf State. Furthermore, Mullock reports that De Bruyne loves life at the European champions and his family calls Manchester home.
Manchester City’s intention to extend De Bruyne’s contract would be to reward his loyalty and fend off the Saudi Pro League club’s interest in his services. Ben Jacobs reports for caughtoffside.com that Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal have made contact with the camp of Kevin De Bruyne. Jacobs further reports that City would expect a fee of more than £100 million to sanction any sale of the midfielder. Furthermore, Jacobs reports that Pep Guardiola wants the European champions to extend De Bruyne’s contract with the world champions.
The Manchester City legend has just returned from injury. De Bruyne missed five months of the season as he recovered from hamstring surgery. The midfielder suffered the injury during his team’s 3-nil win over Burnley on the opening day of the season.
He returned to the pitch during the treble winners’ 5-nil over Huddersfield in the FA Cup third round. De Bruyne played a key role in Manchester City’s 3-2 win over Newcastle at St.James Park.
With De Bruyne fit it sets up well for the second half of the season for Pep Guardiola’s side. If they can sign him to a contract extension it would be massive news for the club.

A pair of teams fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference meet on Saturday night as the Chicago Fire face the visiting New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls (9-9-6, 33 points) and Fire (9-9-5, 32 points) are ninth and 10th in the East standings, respectively. The Fire, though, have a match in hand. Chicago is coming off a 2-0 win over CF Montreal on July 19 behind goals from Hugo Cuypers and Jack Elliott. Philip Zinckernagel, an MLS All-Star Game selection, added an assist. The Fire have shown marked improvement under Gregg Berhalter in his first season as head coach and technical director. The next step, though, is Chicago qualifying for its first playoff appearance since 2017, and that includes taking advantage of the transfer window that opened on Thursday. "It's a work in progress," Berhalter said. "We've openly stated that we want to add players to the team and keep the team moving forward and progressing. There's a number of targets that we've been speaking to, and now it's about really honing on a few of them and then pursuing the deal." Fire center back Carlos Teran, out since mid-April with an upper leg injury, has returned to training and is "day-to-day," per Berhalter. New York last played on July 19 against Inter Miami CF, getting an Alexander Hack opener in the 14th minute before allowing the next five goals - two to Lionel Messi - in a 5-1 defeat. The Red Bulls will look to bounce back from a heavy loss in its last outing, a win getting them a step closer to an unprecedented 16th-straight playoff appearance. "We have to play with a high intensity. We have to play with the right mentality. Those are two big things that we have to improve," Hack said. "We have to be ready from the first minute until the 95th minute, play as a team, support each other, (and) fight for each other." The Red Bulls on Wednesday announced that they had signed Swedish midfielder Gustav Berggren from Raków Czestochowa in Poland's first division.

Five potential landing spots for Christian Wilkins after stunning Raiders release
The Las Vegas Raiders just stunned the league by releasing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins after only one year with the team. After signing a four-year, $110 million contract, he struggled with injuries in 2024. This was supposed to be a big bounce-back year for Wilkins, but after a dispute between the two sides in regard to how to handle his foot injury, the team decided it was best to part ways. Now, a premier interior disruptor is suddenly available. Assuming his medicals get checked out soon, there should be a lot of interest around the league. Where should he land? Dallas Cowboys Dallas has needed a dominant interior presence for quite some time. Osa Odighizuwa is an awesome threat, but he is only solid against the run. Alongside him, the team will be banking heavily on 2023 first-rounder Mazi Smith, who has been disappointing so far. With Dallas looking to return to the playoffs, adding a stud like Wilkins could give Dallas one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. San Francisco 49ers The 49ers added some young bodies in CJ West and Alfred Collins, yet neither offer a proven, all-around talent like Wilkins could if healthy. The 49ers defensive line was horrid outside of Nick Bosa in 2024, but by adding Wilkins, the team would now have a solid cast of starters with Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Wilkins and Kevin Givens/Jordan Elliott. Miami Dolphins A return to Miami makes a ton of sense for both sides. The Dolphins know exactly how to use Wilkins, he knows the building and players, and the transition would be very easy. Miami needs help in the interior defensive line; by plugging Wilkins back into his old role, he could offer the quickest path to high-level impact. Detroit Lions With Levi Onwuzurike out with injury and Detroit needing more juice on the defensive line, adding a proven disruptor like Wilkins could make some sense. He could provide more depth while he gets fully healthy, and he can join a legit Super Bowl contender. His energy and mentality could be a good fit for a Dan Campbell-led squad. Jacksonville Jaguars The Jaguars defense is average in the interior, but they have excellent edge-rushers who would benefit greatly from a strong disruptor up the middle. Wilkins could balance the front, help in the run defense and allow more one-on-ones for their premier edge-rushers. For a team that wants to return to the playoffs as soon as possible, adding a veteran like Wilkins could be a worthy bet to make.
Mets Unlikely to Trade for $56 Million Pitcher After New Report
The New York Mets are a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East ahead of Friday night's bout with the San Francisco Giants, but they are still one of the most vulnerable teams in baseball. New York has a laundry list of pitchers on the IL, including Tylor Megill (elbow), Griffin Canning (Achilles), and Max Kranick (flexor). However, it did acquire southpaw hurler Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. The veteran is 0-2 with a 3.96 ERA over 45 appearances this season, including 18 holds and one save. While the Mets could stand to add more healthy arms, they probably won't get a certain prominent hurler on the Miami Marlins, via The New York Post's Mike Puma. "The Mets are among the teams that have checked in on Sandy Alcantara," he reported on Friday. "The asking price is steep. The Mets haven’t ruled out adding a starting pitcher, but view it as a tough add given the market." Alcantara is 5-9 with a 6.66 ERA over 20 starts this season. The 29-year-old won the NL Cy Young Award in 2022 after going 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA in 32 starts. His current contract extension has a $21 million club option for 2027, and he's scheduled to make $17.3 million in both 2025 and 2026. Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (8-5, 3.48 ERA) will start for New York against San Francisco right-hander Logan Webb (9-7, 3.08 ERA) on Friday.
