It has been an interesting summer at the Etihad as Pep Guardiola’s squad has received quite the makeover. Exciting new names like Rayan Cherki, James Trafford, and Tijjani Reijnders have come in while a number of veteran players have headed for the exit doors. Winning mentality and experience can be so key to how successful teams are built, making this a very interesting summer for Manchester City.

Another Manchester City Veteran Headed to Turkey

Here We Go

Fabrizio Romano has given the Here We Go for Ilkay Gundogan’s exit to Galatasaray. The multiple-time champion is headed out the door despite being a regular for the Cityzens last term. He was even sold and brought back to Manchester, a solid indication of how important he was to the squad and its winning ways.

There is no fee being paid for the almost 35-year-old as the English side are eager to save money on his wages. He has reportedly penned a two-year deal in Turkey and could see out his career there, depending on his own ambitions.

Summer Makeover

In addition to losing some stellar young talents, Guardiola has seen his team lose some of the more reliable veterans, players who understood his system and could execute it to perfection. Kevin de Bruyne was the first out the door on a free to Napoli, he has since been followed by Ederson, Kyle Walker, and Manuel Akanji who left on loan to Inter Milan.

Gundogan becomes another older head in the dressing room to depart, which leaves the team in a state of limbo. New players are aiming to make their mark and learn the complicated system without as much help from reliable veterans. It will be interesting to see if this pays off or if the Cityzens leave themselves scrambling by the end of the season.
