This weekend, the FA Cup semi-final will be played at Wembley Stadium. The first semifinal will be between Manchester City and Southampton.

Manchester City reached this stage of the competition after beating Liverpool in the quarterfinals earlier this month. Man City defeated Liverpool 4-0 at home with a hat trick from Erling Haaland and a goal from Antoine Semenyo.

Southampton reached the semifinals after beating Arsenal 2-1 at home in the quarterfinals. It was the upset of the FA Cup, and with goals from Ross Stewart and Shea Charles, Southampton remains the only Championship team in the competition.

During the week, Manchester City defeated Burnley 1-0 away from home in the Premier League. The win has put them top of the Premier League table.

During the week, Southampton played their 44th EFL Championship league game. Southampton drew 2-2 with Bristol City. Southampton is currently 4th in the Championship league table and is three points away from a direct promotion spot to the Premier League.

Manchester City and Southampton last played each other last season in the Premier League. On May 10, 2025, Southampton hosted Manchester City at St. Mary's Stadium; the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
