Manchester City's Eric Garcia carried off after scary collision with goalkeeper

Medical personnel took Manchester City defender Eric Garcia off the pitch on a stretcher with an apparent head injury late in Wednesday's match versus Arsenal following scary scenes at the Etihad.

With the game's result already settled in the 80th minute, the 19-year-old Garcia tracked back to cover an over-the-top ball as City goalkeeper Ederson left his line to protect his box.

Ederson never saw his teammate, and he unintentionally plowed into Garcia while simultaneously clearing the ball:

Play was quickly halted, and Garcia received attention for roughly nine minutes before he was taken for further evaluations and treatments.

City held a commanding 2-0 advantage at the time of the collision, while Arsenal were relegated to 10 men after David Luiz was sent off shortly after the break.

Phil Foden added a third tally in stoppage time to cement the victory for the defending champions on the first day of the Premier League's resumption since the coronavirus pandemic forced the campaign's suspension in March.
